Parks & Recreation
Welcome to Summer!
As with most public and private sector employers, retaining and recruiting personnel has been more challenging as the pandemic declines. James City County, including Parks & Recreation, has experienced the same challenges. We’re moving in the right direction – but still have several full-time, part-time, on-call and many seasonal positions to fill. We need lifeguards (indoor and outdoor pools), Park Attendants, Recreation Leaders Customer Service representatives, instructors and more. If providing outstanding customer service with passion is a position that you can fill, we want to meet you! Please apply online. We’re optimistic we’ll be fully staffed this summer, and thank you, our residents for your understanding and our staff for working diligently to provide the best services possible with our limited staffing levels.
The Summer edition of Destination Recreation welcomes you outdoors! June 21 is the longest day of the year, and we hope you’ll join us for Project 547: the Longest Day of Play! We’ve planned a day-long celebration, please check out the brochure for details and for more on other returning favorites including our 20 special events. New, free initiatives include an outdoor concert series this spring, Walk This Way: Williamsburg Walking Club, a series of wellness weekends to promote active and healthy lifestyles through fitness classes, nutrition workshops and mind/body programs. Plus, we’ve got Summer Camp and the pools open Memorial Day weekend.
Please spend a few minutes with this edition of Destination Recreation and share it with your family and friends. This summer edition details programs through mid-September and look for the fall brochure in September. You can download the brochure at jamescitycountyva.gov/recreation or pick up a copy at the James City County Recreation Center, the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, any Parks & Recreation public facility, the Satellite Services Office in Toano and at the James City County or Williamsburg Libraries.
