The James River Association is a 501(c)(3) organization that was started by a group of landowners in 1976 with the mission to be guardian of the James River and to provide a voice for the river, taking action to promote conservation and responsible stewardship of its natural resources.  JRA is the only organization in Virginia working solely to protect and enhance the unique resources in the James River watershed.  From the headwaters in the Alleghany Mountains to the mouth at the Chesapeake Bay, JRA works through its core programs of River Advocacy, James RiverKeeper, Watershed Restoration, Education and Outreach to restore and protect America’s Founding River.
