Numerous military installations and personnel are a large asset to the Hampton Roads area. More than 95,000 uniformed men and women are currently stationed in Hampton Roads. Of these, approximately 15,000 join the private sector annually, adding skills and experience to the labor force. Additionally, more than 10,000 civilians work on the various bases throughout Hampton Roads.
Joint Base Langley-Eustis – Home of the 633rd Air Base Wing and Air Combat Command, Langley is the oldest continually active Air Force base in the world. The 633rd Air Base Wing is comprised of two groups that provide installation support to more than 9,000 military and civilian personnel. Air Combat Command is the primary force provider of combat airpower to America’s warfighting commands.
Camp Peary – A 10,000-acre Armed Forces experimental training activity camp
US Coast Guard Training Center – Each year thousands of Coast Guard personnel come here to master the latest techniques and applications of the modern Coast Guard.
Naval Weapons Station Complex (including Cheatham Annex) – The Navy’s premier weapons facility on a 13,000-acre base with 2,500 military and civilian personnel.
