The James City County Business & Technology Incubator (JCCBTI) is located at 5300 2A Palmer Lane and is an initiative by the Economic Development Authority of James City County. JCCBTI is managed by the William & Mary Technology and Business Center (TBC).
A business incubator is designed to help ensure the success of and to accelerate the growth of small, emerging businesses. This is accomplished through client specific programs that provide guidance and enhanced access to resources, services, and support from a variety of groups.
The goal of JCCBTI is to increase economic diversity through the growth and development of knowledge and technology based and other growth oriented emerging small or start-up businesses.. A major benefit for companies involved in JCCBTI is the access to William & Mary’s Mason School of Business, consistently ranked as one of the best business schools in the nation.
The businesses who qualify for incubation will participate in a comprehensive incubation program, including:
- Assessment of the companies needs
- Establishment of and help with critical milestones
- Customized business development programs
- Direct business mentoring
- Access to professional service providers
- Facilitation of relationship building through formal and informal networking
- Links to Mason School of Business professors and student interns
- Ongoing business education programs
- Engagement with other incubation companies
It is a well-documented fact that businesses that participate in incubation programs have a far greater chance of success than their small business counterparts. According to a study from the University of Michigan, 87% of business incubator graduates stay in business for the long term.
